The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) launched a project to forecast riverbank erosion in medium-sized rivers such as the Teesta, Dudhkumar,
Atrai, Ichamati (Bogra-Sirajganj), Gorai, Kirtonkhola, Arial Khan, Pungli, Kaliganga, Dhaleshwari, Sangu, and Jadukata-Rakti, all of which are vulnerable to erosion.
CEGIS has been engaged to provide technical expertise, utilizing satellite imagery, remote sensing, and advanced tools like Google Earth Engine to predict erosion.
The project aims to develop reliable forecasting tools for these rivers, enhancing management and risk mitigation efforts. As part of this initiative, riverbank erosion
forecasting tools have been developed using machine learning models and deterministic approaches, implemented through Python programming.
