River Name: Atrai

1. General Information

1.1 Description

The Atrai River is a transboundary river in the northwestern region of Bangladesh recognized by the Joint River Commission (JRC). This meandering river originates from the Karatoya River in Debiganj Upazila of Panchagarh District. The river flows 75 km from its source and enters India through Shankarpur Union of Sadar Upazila of Dinajpur District. It flows for about 44 km and enters Bangladesh again through Alampur Union of Dhamurhat Upazila of Naogaon District and falls into the Gumani River in Gurudaspur Upazila of Natore District. Along the course of the river, Chirirbandar Mouza of Abdulpur Union of Chirirbandar Upazila and Mahadani Mouza of Auliapukur Union are known as Kakra, where there is a bridge named Kakra. This river is included in the third-class navigation route designated by the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA).
